Have we looked into the possibility of getting a UK General licence for the club?
The costs are very favourable.

UK General is an Ofcom licence which allows 5W handhelds over a number of VHF & UHF channels.
"A Light licence refers to a Simple UK, Simple Site, or Suppliers Light licence. They are 'pre-packaged' licences that come with a set list of frequencies for users to self-coordinate."

Simple UK Light is the licence we may be interested in.
"This licence authorises the use of hand-portable or mobile radio
equipment anywhere within the UK. Licensees have access to 19
frequencies across 4 Business Radio frequency bands and must self-
coordinate with other Simple UK Light licensees.
• Base station use is not permitted for Simple UK licences.
• The maximum ERP allowed is 5 watts.
The licence fee is £75 for five years.
A list of frequencies is included on the licence document."
I thought the simple light licence was business use only. Mostly just farmers around my way using these channels. I'll have another read up on the link you posted though.

I have not heard it called a General Licence, then I haven't heard loads of stuff.
I'm afraid I can't see the point of a Light UK licence as the PMR Net is for any and all callers. I also have to wonder where the £75 would come from as we are all skint but thanks for your input. ;) :)
It used to be called a UK General Licence, but is now called Simple UK I believe.
It provides access to three VHF bands & two UHF bands at 5W.
Applicants do not need to be a registered business with Companies House, they can be any group or organisation.
The £75 licence lasts for 5 years, £15 per year.
I'm happy to dip into my pockets for that.

I'm afraid I still can't see the point of this for our group. We are not a club as such and our main aim is to promote radio activity from/to 'Radio Corner' in Ashdown Forest.
Maybe it's just me so I ivite others to chip in with their views and/or thoughts.
