MILLS ON THE AIR 2026 – 9TH – 10TH MAY
Hello!
Registrations for the 30th Anniversary year of Mills on the Air are going really well and at the time of writing, we are officially at 60 sites worldwide. These include Operators from all over the UK, Ireland, Holland, Germany, Bulgaria, Belgium, The United States of America and Canada and more!
This event has been a staple part of the Radio Amateur calendar since 1996 and continues to go from strength to strength.
It's a fantastic, low pressure event that is a great day out for the whole club and your families!
It's all about getting out to your local Wind or Watermill (Or other type of Mill... we have both horse and gas mills this year!), showing them a little support and sharing the hobby with a whole new set of people that may not know about it!
What do you need to do?
1. Find your local Mill. This can be a working mill, a non working mill or even a former mill site! If there is historical evidence a mill existed there, it becomes a valid site to work from! If you are unsure where your nearest mills are, message us and we can help find them!
2. Get permission to operate from there. We can offer support with this if needed. But please remember, if the mill says no, they've said no for a reason.
3. Survey the site. By this we mean make sure it meets your needs first of all... Does it have a loo you can use, is the space you are planning to operate from suitable, can you get on and off site easily or are there restrictions? At the same time, you need to do a Risk Assessment. This is for your records, not ours.
4. Register for an NOV if you are going that route. (NOV is Notice of Variation, in the UK this can be obtained by contacting OFCOM and is available to the appropriate level of licence holder)
5. Register with us! We can then research and write a site history, share where you will be and help get the local public excited about visiting you and the mill for National Mills Weekend!

OH! and if POTA or SOTA is your main jam? Many of the Mill sites that are eligible to take part are within parks or on high ground that can be classed as a Summit. So, you could.... Get yourself a twofer!
