Last post by Razz229 - Oct 10, 2025, 09:24 PM
Hello and welcome

Here is my report for the Southern Area & South Coast SSB Net (or The 4 Chair Net), held on Thursday 9th of October 2025.

My location for night was Radio Corner, Ashdown 🌴 Forest in the county of East Sussex.
The location is about 32 miles South of the capitol London.

The net is held on channel 39 (27.395 MHz) of the CEPT/FCC band and uses LSB.
It is scheduled to start at 20:30 Hrs 🕣 and finishes anytime form 23:00 Hrs 🕚 UK local UK time.

My set up for the night was a Sirio Performer 5000 antenna stuck on the roof with a mag mount and a battery 🔋 powered Anytone AT-6666 set at about 40 watts max.

The band conditions were better than the previous week with Canada, America, Jamaica and Wales being heard.

South Coast PMR net / Re: Monday PMR Net
Last post by Razz229 - Oct 10, 2025, 07:41 AM
Well hello there, how you doing?

Now for a public service announcement on behalf of the Monday Night Channel 14 South Coast PMR Net

CQ CQ CQ, calling all stations in the East side of Kent. Neil CT 5159 will be over towards Ashford for the net to be held on the 13th of October. Give him a call on channel 14 and keep him company.

Now on with another episode of "Ray Reviews" the Monday Night PMR Net, held on the 6th of October 2025.

Did you know the top 3 finishers in the US Grand Prix held on this date in 1968, were John Surtees in 3rd place, Graham Hill in 2nd place and Jackie Stewart in 1st place 🏁.

My location for the night was Radio Corner, Ashdown 🌳 Forest in the county of East Sussex, where the sky was clear, temperature was mild and the breeze kept the clouds at bay allowing Radio Corner to be bathed in the light of the full Moon 🌕

The net run's from 20:30 Hrs 🕣, but people are often chatting before then, and finishes anytime from 23:00 Hrs 🕚 UK time

The net is held on PMR analogue channel 14 and doesn't use any tones or codes for access. This makes the net accessible to all, regardless of radio knowledge or experience.
Even the IQ-Zero Village Idiots 🤡

My set up for the night was the CRT Space U powered by an old car battery 🔋 and a home made 1/4 wave "Sputnik" antenna on a pole.

With the what time, when and how established. On with my list of check in's and who heard and or worked who.

and me
CT 2290 -- Ray -- Ashdown 🌳 Forest -- East Sussex -- In the Chair 💺

Fun contact on the evening was between Shaggy in his Boudoir and Matt on a roundabout.
Here is a rough view of the signal path from Lewes to Hailsham.

pmr999.JPG

It was about 11 miles, not bad for a handy to handy contact.

Thank you all who called in, special thank you to Wilma & Shaggy for making the long arduous drive up to Radio Corner for a visit.
Sorry if you tried to call in and wasn't heard or you was blocked by the IQ-Zero keyer 🤡. Don't let them beat you, try another Monday night.

That about brings this episode to an end, accept for the stats.

18 in the log
1 London borough worked
4 counties worked
1 IQ-Zero keyer 🤡

Ashdown Radio maybe down, but a bit of wind would never stop Radio Corner transmitting

Posted this morning on FB

Due to Storm Amy hitting the area overnight, we are currently experiencing a major power outage in the area, which is affecting our output.
UK Power Networks engineers are on the scene to try and restore power to parts of Uckfield.
