Last post by Razz229 - Oct 04, 2025, 02:23 PM
Hi y'all and welcome

This is my report for the Southern Area & South Coast SSB Net held on Thursday 2nd of October 2025

The band conditions so different to last week. There was no skip, no noise, nada, nothing, just the sound of white noise hissing away
The weather was surprisingly warm, cloudy with a breeze.

My location for the night was Radio Corner, Ashdown 🌳 Forest in the county of East Sussex

The net can be found on FCC (mid-block) channel 39 Lower Sideband and is scheduled to start at 20:30 pm 🕣 and finish at 23:00 pm 🕚, but sometime it can go on for longer depending on band conditions and operators present.

My set up for the night was the Anytone AT-6666 set for an estimate 40 watts, powered by a car battery 🔋 and a Sirio Performer 5000 antenna stuck to the roof with a mag mount.

Here is the list of check in's and who heard and or worked who

Welcome to another episode of "Ray Reviews" the Monday Night South Coast PMR Net

or did you that on this date in history. . .

"Britney Spears, 'Baby 1 more time', becomes a worldwide hit in 25 different countries"

The net is scheduled to start at 8.30 pm 🕣 and finish at 11.00 pm 🕚 UK time, but on this night it went on to midnight 🕛

My location for the night was Radio Corner, Ashdown 🌲 Forest in the county of East Sussex, the home of Winnie the Pooh

The weather was still and cloudy which made the half Moon 🌓 look like fuzzy dot in the sky.
By the end of the night, the clouds had cleared, the Moon had vanished behind the horizon and the sky was full of stars

The net is held on PMR analogue channel 14 and doesn't use any tones or codes. Why? So it is open to all.

Working conditions were the CRT Space U powered by a car battery 🔋, and a "Sputnik" 1/4 wave antenna up on a fibre glass pole.

Here is the important list of check in's and who heard and or worked who.

and me
CT 2290 -- Ray -- Ashdown 🌲 Forest -- East Sussex -- In the chair 💺

Thank you all who called in, coz without you, there would be no net.
Thank you to the listening stations, you know who you are and sorry if you tried and wasn't heard. Maybe try after 9 o'clock as the 1st half hour can be busy with check in's.

Now for the bit that everybody really really wants. The stats

24 in the log
4 counties worked
4 shooting stars seen (not surprising as it is the time of year for them)
Best handy to handy contact was approximately 25 miles or 40 kilometres

That brings this episode to an end.. . . . . . . But first . . . .

Here is a public service announcement.
Don't forget to put the empty milk bottles out
Make sure the dog has been feed
and
don't forget to extinguish your cigar or cigarettes, as these can set fire to a 70's sofa quicker James Hunt round Brands Hatch

Hope to see some old and new faces.
This will be the 5th monthly meet and it seems to be gaining steam.
Open to anyone from amature, cb, pmr or just an interest in receiving hobby.

Welcome one & all

Here is my report for the Southern Area and South Coast SSB Net, held on the evening of Thursday 25-09-2025.

My set up for the night was a Sirio Performer 5000 antenna and a older version of the Anytone AT-6666 powered by a car battery 🔋.
I don't use any amp's or power mic's, this reduces the chance of something going wrong or failing.

The weather for the night was cool, clear and breezy.
The band conditions was like last week wall to wall stateside coming in.

My location was Radio Corner, Ashdown 🌲 Forest in the county of East Sussex. This is about 13 miles Southeast of Gatwick Airport and about 32 miles South of the capital London.

The net is held on FCC channel 39 LSB or 27.395 MHz and is scheduled to start at 20:30 Hrs 🕣. But on this night it started a 21:00 Hrs 🕚 due to my work commitments.

Now on with bit everybody reads.
Here is the list of check in's and who heard and or worked who.
All stations are 26 division unless otherwise stated.

Speed Bird--Henry aka Russell--Reigate Hill--Surrey
and me
CI 2290--Ray--Ashdown 🌲 Forest--East Sussex--In the chair 💺

Thank you all who called in and stuck with it.
Sorry if you tried and wasn't heard. In Radio Corner some American stations were a strong audio 5+ and up to 7 on my signal meter

Stats for the night
18 in the log
2 countries work
1 London borough worked
4 UK counties worked
2 American States worked

Due to the noise and skip, a question was asked. Would the net move to another channel while the skip is up?
What do you think? Should the net have a back up channel/frequency and where should it be.

Best 73 to all

Welcome one welcome all

Here is another episode of "Ray Reviews" the Monday Night Channel 14 South Coast PMR Net held on the 22nd of September 2025

or did you know. . .

"it's Hobbits day and on this date, The Duke of York cinema opens in Brighton"

My set up for the night was the CRT SPACE U, powered by a car battery 🔋, and a 7900D tri-band antenna which left me wanting and then a Comet CA-2X4SR antenna which improved both RX & TX (thanks to Dean for lending it to me).

The net starts at eight thirty 🕣, but you can find some on before having a pre-net chat and finishes anytime form eleven o'clock 🕚 UK time.

My location was Radio (Camper) Corner, Ashdown 🌴 Forest in the county of East Sussex or Maidenhead grid reference JO-01-BB

The weather cold and clear with very little wind.

Analogue channel 14 is where the net can be found and, it doesn't use any kind of CTCSS, DCS or privacy tones. This makes the net open to all ages and radio knowledge.

Now on with the bit that most people want to read. The check in's and who heard and or worked who.

CT 4013--Tony--Brighton--East Sussex
Speed Bird--Henry aka Russell--Reigate Hill--Surrey
and
CT 2290--Ray--Ashdown 🌴 Forest--East Sussex--In the chair 💺

Thank you all who called in, and to the listening stations.
Sorry if you tried and wasn't heard, give it another try and maybe try an bit later in the evening when the check in's have died down.

Before we end this episode of "Ray Reviews", time for some stats.

21 in the log
1 London borough worked
4 counties worked
1 shooting star seen
4 camper vans in Radio Corner

That does bring this episode to an end
